ISTANBUL (AA) - Türkiye recorded its all-time highest temperature of 50.5°C (122.9°F) in the southeastern district of Silopi in Sirnak province on July 25, the Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Ministry announced Saturday.
Data from the Turkish State Meteorological Service said 132 weather stations across the country reported record-breaking July temperatures on the same day.
The previous national record was set Aug. 15, 2023, in Sarıcakaya, Eskisehir, at 49.5°C.
Temperatures also surpassed 49°C in several southeastern districts, including 49.6°C in Kiziltepe (Mardin), 49.4°C in Cizre (Sirnak), 49.3°C in Nusaybin (Mardin), 49.1°C in Kurtalan (Siirt) and 49.0°C in Ceylanpinar (Sanliurfa).
Authorities urged those with chronic health conditions, the elderly, pregnant women, and children to avoid outdoor exposure between 11 am and 4 pm (0800GMT and 1300GMT) due to health risks linked to extreme heat.
