Türkiye’s house sales rise 39.7% in January, led by Istanbul

Over 112,000 houses sold in January, official figures show

ISTANBUL (AA) - House sales in Türkiye soared 39.7% year-on-year in January, according to the country’s statistical bureau TurkStat on Friday.

A total of 112,173 houses were sold in January, rising from 31,865 the same month last year, the lowest figure since June 2024, the data showed.

The provinces with the highest number of house sales were Istanbul with 18,912, Ankara with 10,158, and Izmir with 6,634.

Mortgaged sales jumped 182.8% on an annual basis in January to 16,726, while accounting for 14.9% of all house sales.

First house sales rose by 29.8% in January to reach 32,785, while second-hand sales grew 44.2% year-on-year to 79,388.

House sales to foreigners fell 24.9% year-on-year in January, totaling 1,547.

Istanbul saw the highest number of foreign house buyers with 611, followed by the southwestern resort city of Antalya with 469, and the southern province of Mersin with 118.

The highest number of foreign house buyers was from Russia with 248, followed by Iran with 162, and Iraq with 103.
