Turkiye's Olympic champion Ismail Ogan dies at 89

Ogan won gold medal for wrestling at 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games

ANTALYA, Turkiye (AA) - Turkiye's Olympic gold medalist Ismail Ogan died of multiple system organ failures on Tuesday. He was 89.

"He was suffering from respiratory failure, and later experienced multiple organ failures when he arrived in Antalya's Akdeniz University Hospital," Ogan's son, Bilal told Anadolu Agency.

Ogan climbed to the top of the podium at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games and brought Turkiye a silver medal at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.

The former freestyle wrestler will be buried in Antalya's Eminceler Cemetery on Thursday.
