Two Israeli soldiers killed in W. Bank car attack: Army

Alleged incident occurred outside Israeli settlement near West Bank city of Jenin

RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) - Two Israeli soldiers were killed Friday in an alleged vehicular attack in the occupied West Bank, according to the Israeli army.

In a statement, the army said that a 26-year-old Palestinian man -- his name was not given -- had driven his car into a group of soldiers manning the entrance of the Jewish-only Mevo Dotan settlement near Jenin.

"Two Israeli soldiers were killed and two others were moderately injured," the statement read.

"The driver of the vehicle was lightly wounded and has since been taken to hospital for further treatment," it added.

The Palestinian territories have remained tense since last December, when U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The move drew condemnation from across the region and sparked angry protests in the Palestinian territories -- and several clashes with Israeli troops -- that have left at least 25 Palestinians dead.
