ISTANBUL (AA) – Turkish police have confirmed that two Russian sailors were found dead early Wednesday in a shipyard in the Istanbul’s western Tuzla district.

According to initial reports, the bodies were first discovered by shipyard personnel on a Russian-flagged vessel during maintenance.

"The sailors were found in a bathroom of the ship, according to the shipyard doctor," Muhsin Divan, executive president of the shipyard, told reporters.

Divan said the deaths are not thought to be linked to routine maintenance work, as no such activity takes place at night in the shipyard.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
