The embassy of the United Arab Emirates honored the family of a Bangladeshi caregiver Tuesday who lived in the UAE and tragically died on Oct. 24, 2014.
The embassy presented a cheque, a medal and a certificate to the family for Safiya’s heroic devotion.
Safiya died while bravely saving the lives of two young Emirati boys in her care from drowning, according to the UAE Embassy in Dhaka.
She managed to rescue the boys, aged between six and ten, from the strong waves by pulling them to safety but was then swept out to sea.
Despite the bold efforts of the children’s father, who jumped into the water in a bid to save her, Safiya drowned before the arrival of the emergency services, said the embassy.
