LONDON (AA) - The UK government is considering to impose COVID-19 restrictions on travelers from China, the defense secretary said on Thursday.

Speaking to Sky News, Ben Wallace said he is expecting "to see some clarification from the Department for Transport today or tomorrow."

The move comes amid fresh announcements by countries such as the US, Japan, and Italy that will enforce new requirements for people coming from China, including negative COVID-19 tests.

Wallace said: "The government is looking at that, it's under review, we noticed obviously what the US has done and India and I think Italy has looked at it."

"We keep under review all the time, obviously, health threats to the UK, wherever they may be."

China recently announced it would begin to ease pandemic measures, the last biggest economy to opt for "living with COVID" following three years of lockdowns, closed borders and mandatory quarantine.
