ISTANBUL (AA) – Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met with EU High Representative Kaja Kallas in Brussels to discuss European security and cooperation amid ongoing regional challenges.
In a statement on Facebook, he said that during the meeting, they emphasized the need for a strong and united Europe, outlining key priorities for collective security efforts.
The priorities include strengthening defense budgets, bolstering security and defense forces, increasing military production, and accelerating the development of new weapon systems.
He also stressed the importance of learning from Ukraine’s experience in its war against Russia.
“Ukraine has been and remains on a strategic path to Europe. We are resolutely defending our sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity,” Umerov said.
He noted that Kallas expressed a clear understanding of Ukraine’s situation and reaffirmed strong EU support.
According to Umerov, work is already underway on new EU initiatives to support Ukraine, which are expected to be announced in the spring.
Europe recognizes the urgency of enhancing its defense capabilities and is committed to taking action, he added.
