ANKARA (AA) - Ukraine’s president and the head of the International Monetary Fund on Friday discussed the creation of anti-corruption court in the country.
According to a presidential statement, Petro Poroshenko and IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde exchanged views on establishing the court as well as ensuring the effective functioning of other anti-corruption institutions.
The conversation came a day after the president demanded Ukraine's parliament work on a bill on a supreme anti-corruption court that Poroshenko proposed in November.
“My proposal is still on the table. But if I don’t see progress at the beginning of the next week, I will prepare the relevant bill myself and submit it to parliament in a week or 10 days,” Poroshenko said.
Poroshenko and Lagarde called on parliament, known as the Verkhovna Rada, to demonstrate "ultimate" responsibility and unite around a bill.
Lagarde said the IMF supports the efforts of Ukrainian authorities to fight corruption.
