ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine on Wednesday said that six of its servicemen were killed and more than 10 others injured in a Russian missile attack on the country’s border region of Sumy.
“As a result of the strike, six servicemen were killed and more than 10 were injured during training at the military unit's shooting range,” Ukraine’s National Guard said in a statement on Facebook.
The statement said that the attack took place on Tuesday, and that an official investigation is being conducted into the incident.
It said that the commander of the military unit in question has been suspended, adding that the necessary information has been transferred to law enforcement agencies.
“As part of the investigation, a legal assessment will be given to the actions of all persons who made the relevant decisions. The National Guard of Ukraine will provide all necessary information and assistance,” it added.
On Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that up to 70 Ukrainian servicemen were killed in a missile strike on a training camp near the city of Shostka in the Sumy region.
