ANKARA (AA) - The death toll from Russian airstrikes in the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv has risen to 47, the regional administration said on Friday.

According to the updated data from medical facilities, 38 men and nine women have so far been killed in the Thursday's attack, the Chernihiv Regional State Administration announced on Facebook.

Meanwhile, 18 people were rescued, it added.

Earlier, search and rescue efforts were suspended due to the intensification of the attacks, according to the Emergency State Service of Ukraine.

Russia's war on Ukraine, which began on Feb. 24, has been met with international outrage, with the European Union, US, and UK, among others, implementing tough financial sanctions on Moscow.

More than a million people have fled Ukraine to neighboring countries, according to UN Refugee Agency.

In the second round of peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv, the two sides agreed on creating humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians.
