ISTANBUL (AA) - Ukraine said on Monday that it received a new batch of humanitarian aid from Azerbaijan aiming to support the war-torn country’s energy sector.
Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Hrychuk announced the arrival of the new aid in a statement on Facebook, saying the batch contains more than 50 high and low voltage cable products, generators of various capacities, as well as transformer equipment.
“This aid was received within the framework of the agreement on the donation of power equipment for the restoration of energy infrastructure,” Hrychuk said, indicating the deal was concluded the day Azerbaijan announced it allocated an additional $2 million in humanitarian aid to Kyiv last month.
Hrychuk said the deal is the fourth between Kyiv and Baku on the provision of humanitarian aid to the war-torn country’s energy sector since the start of the Ukraine war on Feb. 24, 2022.
Azerbaijan transferred humanitarian cargo to Ukraine worth more than $11.5 million, she said.
Hrychuk expressed her gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people for supporting Ukraine “in this difficult time.”
On August 11, Aliyev signed a decree providing Kyiv with an additional $2 million in humanitarian aid, allocating the funds to Azerbaijan's Energy Ministry for the purchase of electrical equipment produced in the country and its shipment to Ukraine.
According to the decree, the funds come from the president's reserve fund under the 2025 state budget.
In July, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev said at the 4th Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome that Baku provided a total of $42 million in financial assistance for Ukraine's recovery.
