MYKOLAIV, Ukraine (AA) - A Ukrainian doctor said on Sunday that hospitals are struggling with a serious scarcity of medicines and blood, which is limiting their ability to treat wounded soldiers.
Yuri Kucher, a physician at the Mykolaiv Hospital in the southern Mykolaiv city, lamented that they have only one blood bag left.
Kucher stated that they are unable to respond to donors and send blood to the front lines due to lack of blood bags, and that "we are now faced with the fact that our people need more blood."
"As we have people that are injured, we are running out of blood bags faster than ever before," he added.
Due to the war, the supplies of blood and medicines in their health facilities have also run out, he said, adding that they will try to use the existing stocks during the most difficult times.
At least 364 civilians, including 38 children and 42 women, have been killed and 759 others injured in Ukraine since Russia launched a war in the Eastern European country on Feb. 24, according to UN figures, with the real toll feared to be higher.
More than 1.5 million people have fled Ukraine to neighboring countries, the latest data by the UN refugee agency showed.
The Russian attacks have been met by an outcry from the international community, with the EU, UK, and US implementing a range of economic sanctions against Moscow.
