ISTANBUL (AA) – A Russian ballistic missile struck the central area of Dnipro in eastern Ukraine, killing four people and injuring at least 40, local authorities said on Monday.
The acting head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional administration, Vladyslav Haivanenko, said on Telegram that the majority of the wounded have been hospitalized, including 11 in serious condition.
He added that search and rescue efforts at the site have now concluded.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that four people were rescued from the rubble, all fires were extinguished, and a four-story office building, along with 49 cars, sustained damage.
Dnipro City Council head Borys Filatov, speaking at the scene, said the strike on the city center was carried out with a Russian ballistic missile, according to the country's state-run Ukrinform news agency.
Separately, Ukraine’s Air Force said in a statement that Russia launched 89 drones overnight across the country.
Air defenses intercepted or diverted 63 of them, while 26 struck nine locations, it added.
Russia did not respond to the ballistic missile use claim, and independent verification is difficult due to the ongoing conflict.
