ISTANBUL (AA) - UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced Friday that Malta’s envoy to the UN, Vanessa Frazier, has been appointed his special representative for children and armed conflict.
Frazier, who served as ambassador to the UN, has also presided as the chair of the Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict in 2023 and 2024.
Besides serving as vice president of the 74th UN General Assembly and Chair of the Second Committee (Economic and Financial), leading the first and only all-women bureau in UN history, Frazier has also been a Security Council facilitator of the lran/Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action agreement and Chair of the 1267 Sanctions Committee on Al Qaeda/Daesh, advanced human rights, child protection and humanitarian language.
Guterres thanked Virginia Gamba of Argentina, who Frazier succeeded, and Najat Maalla M’jid, for her service as acting representative, in his announcement.
