HAMILTON, Canada (AA) - The UN on Wednesday said it is in touch with all parties involved in cease-fire negotiations for the Gaza Strip.
Responding to Anadolu's question about US President Joe Biden's announcement that the US would make "another push" with Türkiye, Egypt, Qatar and Israel to get a cease-fire and hostage exchange deal in Gaza, UN deputy spokesman Farhan Haq said: "Of course, we would encourage any efforts for a cease-fire in Gaza."
"We've talked about this for quite some time, that we need for there to be a cease-fire. We need for there to be the release of all hostages, and we need expanded humanitarian access," he said.
Asked about if the UN was in contact with the different parties regarding the negotiations, Haq said the UN is in contact and that the UN is "in regular touch with all of the various partners, trying to get as much information on this."
Biden said Tuesday the US will try with Türkiye, Egypt, Qatar, Israel and others to achieve a cease-fire and hostage exchange deal in Gaza.
It was the first time he mentioned Türkiye as part of mediation efforts to secure a truce that could end the 14-month conflict.
