ANKARA (AA) – A steel structure collapsed on Thursday at a library construction site in South Korea, killing at least one person and trapping three others, according to local media reports.
The incident took place in Gwangju city in the southwest corner of South Korea, Yonhap News reported.
According to a site official, the rooftop of the second floor appeared to have collapsed directly onto the first floor, with no support structures installed between them.
Firefighters rushed to the scene, pulling out a 47-year-old worker who was found in cardiac arrest and later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Rescue teams soon identified the location of a second trapped worker and began a delicate operation to reach him, while two others remained unaccounted for.
The 51.6 billion-won (approximately $35 million) project was designed to cover 11,286 square meters, with two floors above ground and another two levels underground.
