BERLIN (AA) - One person was killed and four others were injured in a knife attack in northern Hamburg city on Friday, according to police.
Hamburg police said the perpetrator attacked several customers in a supermarket in the city's Barmbek district, and he was later overpowered by pedestrians while trying to run away from the scene.
Police did not name the perpetrator who was arrested by officers who arrived at the scene.
The motive for the attack was not immediately clear.
Police said earlier reports of a possible robbery could not be verified, and they were investigating in all directions.
Heavily-armed police teams have cordoned off the area.
