ISTANBUL (AA) - Fifteen people were injured, with about five or six of them stabbed, at a workplace on Friday in central Japan, according to the Kyodo news agency.

The incident occurred at a factory in the Shizuoka region, local authorities said.

They said that an emergency call “was received around 4.30 pm (0730GMT) … that five or six people had been stabbed at a Yokohama rubber factory in Mishima.”

All victims were reported to be conscious.

Law enforcement agencies have detained 38-year-old Masaki Oyama on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police also received an emergency call reporting that someone was pouring an unidentified liquid around the factory and are investigating the incident.

The car tire factory employed about 980 people as of 2024, according to its website.
