Quake damages 143 homes in village of Obruk, says Nigde governor

ANKARA / NIGDE, Turkey (AA) - A magnitude 5.1 earthquake that struck Turkey's central Nigde province damaged some 143 homes, according to officials on Monday.

Of the 143 buildings, 17 were heavily damaged and 126 suffered slight damage, said Nigde Governor Yilmaz Sahin.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said on Sunday that the quake took place at 10.08 p.m. local time (GMT1908) and was centered in the village of Obruk in the Bor district.

Its epicenter was 6.97 kilometers (4.3 miles) below the surface.

Sahin earlier said that tents and supplies were sent and search and rescue teams directed to the region.

No casualties have been reported so far.
