LONDON (AA) – A U.K. opposition lawmaker has died after being repeatedly shot and stabbed in the street in her electoral district Thursday afternoon.
Labour Party MP Jo Cox died of her injuries after being hospitalized following the attack in the town of Birstall, near Leeds in northern England.
A 52-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident. Local police confirmed at a press conference that they were not looking for any other suspects.
In a written statement, Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said the country would be “in shock at the horrific murder [of] a much-loved colleague.”
