PARIS (AA) - A young man died in a hospital on Friday after falling from a roof overnight in northwestern France during protests sparked by the killing of a teenager by police.

The 19-year-old man died on Friday afternoon after a serious fall from the roof of a supermarket around 5 a.m. (0300GMT) in Petit-Quevilly, near Rouen, the France Bleu Normandie daily reported.

After his fall, he was transported in serious condition to the University Hospital of Rouen, but he did not survive because of his severe injuries.

France is jolted by protests after Nahel M. was shot dead by police during a traffic stop in the Paris suburb of Nanterre on Tuesday.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin told TF1 that 45,000 police officers have been deployed across the country in preparation for possible protests on the fourth night.

He added that 197 people were arrested on Thursday during the nationwide protests.

French broadcaster BFMTV reported, citing a police source that 15 people were arrested in Creteil, which is 11.7 kilometers (7.2 miles) from the center of Paris after protesters caused multiple damages and set fire to garbage cans.

The Interior Ministry said 11 people were arrested in Strasbourg where the opera house was damaged. All stores were closed after protesters targeted many of them, including the Apple store in the city.

Meanwhile, lawmakers from the left-wing coalition La France Insoumise (LFI) party in the national assembly called on the government to organize a debate on the riots on the assembly floor, proposing the implementation of an "emergency plan" aimed at addressing the issue of "police violence."
