Turkish military operation is ongoing in eastern Bingol province

BINGOL, Turkey (AA) - Five PKK terrorists were killed in a military operation in eastern Bingol province on Tuesday, provincial governor confirmed.

The terrorists were killed in Genc district as part of the operation against the organization's winter configuration, said Bingol Governor's Office in a statement.

One terrorist was also captured alive and the operation remains underway, read the statement.

Meanwhile, Turkish security forces arrested 51 suspects linked to the group in five districts of western Izmir province.

PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU. It has waged a terror campaign against Turkey for more than 30 years, during which more than 40,000 people have been killed.

Since the group resumed its armed campaign in July 2015, more than 1,200 people, including security personnel and civilians, have lost their lives.
