RAMALLAH, Palestine/ISTANBUL (AA) - At least seven Palestinians were injured during an Israeli raid and settler attacks in the occupied West Bank late Sunday, local media reported.
State-run Palestine TV said Israeli forces stormed Al-Fawwar refugee camp south of Hebron and opened fire, injuring four people. However, the official news agency Wafa put the total number of injuries at five.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society said two children were among the injured and were transferred to a hospital.
Witnesses said Israeli forces used live fire and tear gas during the raid.
Also south of Hebron, Osama Makhmara, an anti-settlement activist, told Anadolu that a man and his wife were injured after illegal settlers assaulted them during an attack on Khallet al-Daba village in Masafer Yatta.
Makhmara said three Palestinians were detained by Israeli forces during the attack.
In the southern West Bank, Wafa news agency said Israeli forces stormed the town of Beit Fajjar south of Bethlehem and arrested one Palestinian.
In the central West Bank, troops raided the town of Ni’lin west of Ramallah, where they arrested a young man and fired tear gas. Another youth was detained in Nabi Saleh, northwest of the city, according to Wafa.
In the north, the army arrested a child and a young man in the town of Ya’bad, south of Jenin, after raiding their homes.
Settler attacks on a water well in the central West Bank on Sunday caused a halt in pumping to thousands of Palestinians in villages east and north of Ramallah in the occupied territory.
The Jerusalem Water Undertaking said in a statement that pumping from Well No. 6 in Ein Samiya, east of Ramallah, had stopped “following a new assault carried out by settlers, in a recurring pattern of violations that deprive thousands of citizens of their basic right to water.”
According to Wafa, Ein Samiya is one of the most important groundwater sources in the northeast Ramallah area, with a total production capacity estimated at 12,000 cubic meters per day, representing about 17% of the daily supply provided by the Jerusalem Water Undertaking in Ramallah Governorate.
The Ein Samia wells supply 19 residential communities directly and an additional 14 communities jointly through the Ramallah pumping station.
Since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, at least 1,016 Palestinians have been killed and more than 7,000 injured in the West Bank by Israeli forces and illegal settlers, according to the Health Ministry.
In an advisory opinion in July last year, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
