Rescue operation still underway to locate pilot of aircraft

ATHENS (AA) - The co-pilot of the Greek F-4 Phantom II fighter jet that crashed Monday morning during low flight training into an area of the Ionian Sea, was found dead by rescuers late afternoon, according to the air force of Greece.

The co-pilot is reported to be a 29-year-old lieutenant commander -- Marios-Mihail Touroutsikas.

The search continues for the 31-year-old commander and the pilot.

The F-4 that crashed into the area 25 nautical miles south of the Andravida Air Base in northwestern Peloponnese was accompanied by another Phantom jet during the training.

According to local media, the two pilots were given a signal to eject, but the cause of the crash is still unknown.
