ANKARA (AA) - Serie A club Inter signed Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.

Eriksen signed a permanent deal with Inter Milan, who will keep him at the San Siro until June 30, 2024.

The 27-year-old midfielder did not extend his contract with the English club and now faces a fresh challenge in a different country with the start of a new chapter in his career.

Eriksen has been linked with the major European club since his contract with Tottenham will end this summer.

"Christian Dannemann Eriksen is officially a new Inter player. The Danish player, born in 1992, joins the Nerazzurri on a permanent deal from Tottenham and has signed a contract lasting until 30 June 2024," the Italian club said in a statement to announce their new transfer.

"All Inter fans would like to take this opportunity to warmly and enthusiastically welcome him and wish him all the best in his adventures in the Nerazzurri shirt. #WelcomeChristian!"

His net worth is 90 million euros ($100.3 million), according to the football data website Transfermarkt.

Eriksen said he is glad to have a chance to play for Inter Milan in Serie A.

"It’s now time to start a new challenge. Inter is a fantastic club," he said.

"I couldn’t wait to join. It’s wonderful to be here, and I’m happy to be a new Inter player. I’m very excited and can’t wait to introduce myself to the fans."

Considered one of the key players for the English side's midfield position, the Danish star scored 69 goals and made 89 assists in 305 matches for Tottenham.

Eriksen played with two goals and four assists in 12 Champions League matches last season as Tottenham were beaten by Liverpool 2-0 in the final in Madrid.

He previously made appearances for Dutch heavyweights Ajax Amsterdam before joining the London club.

Eriksen lifted three Eredivisie League titles along with a Dutch Cup and a Dutch Super Cup.

Inter Milan have signed five players from the English clubs since Antonio Conte took charge: Christian Eriksen, Victor Moses, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young.

The Nerazzurri are currently in second place with 48 points, three points behind leaders Juventus in the title race.

- Lo Celso signs permanent contract with Tottenham

Following Eriksen's departure, Tottenham confirmed Tuesday the signing of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis on a permanent deal until 2025.

The Argentine midfielder joined the London Club from Real Betis on a loan deal with an option to buy in the summer transfer window.

"We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to convert the loan of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis Balompié to a permanent transfer. Gio has signed a contract with the club until 2025," Tottenham said in a statement.

"The midfielder has produced impressive performances after establishing himself in the team following a hip injury which restricted his playing time in the early part of his loan at the club."

Lo Celso scored two goals in 20 appearances in his loan spell with Tottenham this season.
