ISTANBUL (AA) - More than 50 Israeli fighter jets attacked nearly 40 targets throughout Iran’s capital over the past 24 hours, the Israeli army said late Wednesday.

“In the last 24 hours, we have launched three major waves of attacks -- more than 50 Air Force fighter jets attacked about 40 targets throughout Tehran,” said army spokesperson Efi Defrin.

The army also claimed that it struck an anti-tank missile production facility in Iran.

Separately, the army said in a statement that it “completed another wave of strikes in the Tehran area targeting sites of the nuclear weapons project and missile production facilities of the Iranian regime.”

The statement added that ”60 fighter jets attacked more than 20 military targets, including weapons manufacturing sites, centrifuge production facilities and research and development sites.”

Regional tensions have escalated since Friday, when Israel launched airstrikes on multiple sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory strikes.

Israeli authorities said at least 24 people have been killed and hundreds injured since then in Iranian missile attacks.

Meanwhile, in Iran, 585 people have been killed and more than 1,300 wounded in the Israeli assault, according to Iranian media reports.
