JERUSALEM (AA) – A Palestinian man was shot dead on Monday in an alleged stabbing attempt in the occupied West Bank, according to the Israeli military.

In a statement, the army said Israeli forces shot and killed the Palestinian, who had tried to stop a soldier at the Gitai Junction near the settlement of Ariel in the northern West Bank.

No injuries were reported among Israeli soldiers.

The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed the killing, without giving further details about his identity or age.

The Palestinian Red Crescent, for its part, said the Palestinian man was shot in the chest, accusing the Israeli army of refusing to hand over his body to the Palestinian authorities.

According to local Palestinian residents, Israeli forces cordoned off the scene of the alleged attack, banning Palestinian vehicles from crossing.
