BINGOL, Turkey (AA) - A PKK terrorist was killed late Tuesday in a clash with security forces in eastern Turkey.
Security forces came into contact with the terrorists during an anti-terror operation near Selvi, a village in the Genc district of Bingol province, the provincial governor’s office said in a statement.
Two members of the village guard militia were injured in the operation and were moved by helicopter to Bingol State Hospital.
Meanwhile, Turkish Air Force jets killed 17 PKK terrorists in northern Iraq, the military said Wednesday.
According to a statement from the Turkish General Staff, Tuesday’s airstrikes were carried out in Iraq's Gara and Metina regions.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey as well as the U.S. and EU. In its more than three-decade terror campaign against Turkey, more than 40,000 people have been killed.
Since the group resumed its armed campaign in July 2015, more than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives.
