UPDATE - Police report 'multiple victims' from shooting at Michigan church

Police say gunman shot down, church fire contained, and there is no immediate information on number of casualties or shooter's motive

ISTANBUL (AA) – An unknown gunman opened fire at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, on Sunday morning, with police confirming "multiple victims" of the shooter, who was also gunned down.

"There has been an active shooter at the church of Latter Day Saints on McCandlish Rd. There are multiple victims and the shooter is down," the Grand Blanc Township Police Department said in a statement.

Police said there is "no threat to the public at this time."

The shooting caused a fire at the church, but police later confirmed that it had been contained.

It urged residents to avoid visiting the area.

There is no immediate information on the number of casualties and the motive of the shooter. "We do not have names of victims at this time," said the police.

FBI Director Kash Patel said agents are on the scene to assist local authorities.

Attorney General Pamela Bondi said she is getting briefed about the incident, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) agents are also en route to the scene.
