ISTANBUL (AA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday described the development of Moscow's nuclear triad as an “absolute priority,” as he marked the country's Defender of the Fatherland Day.
“The development of the nuclear triad, which serves as a guarantee of Russia's security and effectively ensures strategic deterrence and the balance of power in the world, remains an absolute priority,” Putin said in an address shared by the Kremlin.
Putin emphasized that his country will continue to strengthen its army and navy, “taking into account developments in the international situation, based on combat experience gained" amid the Russia-Ukraine war, which will enter its fifth year on Tuesday.
He added that Russia will also “significantly” enhance the capabilities of other branches of the armed forces, increasing their combat readiness, mobility, and ability to operate in all conditions, even the most challenging.
“And, of course, we will accelerate the development of advanced systems for the Armed Forces,” he added.
Defender of the Fatherland Day, celebrated on February 23 in Russia, honors military personnel and veterans.
As part of the holiday, the Russian president took part in a number of protocol events, including a ceremony, during which he presented state awards to military personnel of the Defense Ministry and the National Guard.
