KAMPALA, Uganda (AA) - A high-ranking Ugandan police officer was gunned down on Friday morning, security forces have confirmed.
Andrew Felix Kaweesi was Assistant Inspector General of Police and had been a spokesman for the force.
He was shot dead just 100 meters from his home in Kulambiro, a suburb in eastern Kampala.
Emiliano Kayima, a Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, confirmed the shooting to journalists at the crime scene.
“This morning we registered a very unfortunate incident where our very senior officer was murdered at 9.30 a.m. (0630GMT) when he was going to work. AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi together with his driver and bodyguard [were killed],” Kayima said.
Kayima added: “All experts are here trying to manage the crime scene. We ask all Ugandans to remain calm as police and other all security agencies work together to manage the situation.”
