6.0 magnitude earthquake strikes Fiji after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit Sumatra Island in Indonesia

ISLAMABAD/ISTANBUL (AA) - Two powerful earthquakes separately struck Fiji and Indonesia on Friday.

While a powerful 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia's Sumatra Island early Friday, another 6.0 magnitude earthquake jolted Fiji Islands in the afternoon.

The quake in Indonesia hit the southwest of the island at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles) at 0431GMT, according to the German Research Center for Geosciences.

Later in the day, Fiji was hit at around 1115GMT and the depth of the tremor was 59 km (36 mi), according to the US Geological Survey.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage in either country.
