UPDATE - Turkey's benchmark stock index ends week up

Borsa Istanbul rises 0.32% from previous close; USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.88

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index increased 0.32% to close Friday at 90,787.01 points.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 90,842.75 points, up 285.53 points from Thursday's close of 90,501.48 points.

During Friday's trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 90,024.05 points and 91,322.69 points -- 48 stocks on the index rose, 37 fell, and 15 were flat compared to the previous close.

Closing the week with a market value of nearly 602.7 billion Turkish liras ($103 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 5.2 billion Turkish liras ($882 million).

The highest trading volumes were posted by private lender Garanti BBVA, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and leading petrochemicals producer Petkim.

Polyester manufacturer Sasa Polyester (SASA) was the top gainer with its shares up 6.50%, while shares of Celebi Hava Servisi (CLEBI) which provides integrated ground services at airports, fell the most, down 4.79%.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,355.70 by market close, up from $1,337.30 the previous day.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $62.00 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Friday.
