ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Wednesday with a new record-high close of 2,162.26 points.

Starting the day at 2,190.61 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index gained 4.52 points, or 0.21%, from the previous close of 2,157.74 points.

The index's lowest value during the day was 2,145.63 points, while its daily high was 2,195.07 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 1.7 trillion Turkish liras ($121.8 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of approximately 27.7 billion Turkish liras ($1.9 billion).

While 31 stocks on the index rose during the day, 68 fell, and one remained unchanged compared to Tuesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, private lender Garanti, and iron and steel producer Kardemir.

Shares of Gubre Fabrikalari performed the best with a 6.69% rise, while participation bank Albaraka Turk saw the sharpest drop, 6.48%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,768.80 by market close, down from $1,782.80 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was down 1.5% to $72.62 per barrel as of 6.24 p.m. local time (1524GMT).
