BIST 100 loses over 1,000 points from previous close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the week at 98,987.48 points on Friday, down 1.29%.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 100,165.74 points. As of the close, it had lost 1,089.99 points from the previous close of 100,077.47 points.

On a weekly basis, the index rose 2.3% at Friday's closing, compared to 96,714.48 points at last week's closing session.

The benchmark index hovered between 98,935.97 and 100,402.28 points during Friday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 659.7 billion Turkish liras ($116.2 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 7 billion Turkish liras ($1.24 billion).

On the last transaction day of the week, 27 stocks on the index rose, 68 were down, and five were flat compared to the previous close.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and defense giant Aselsan.

Shares of casting manufacturer Cemas Dokum saw the largest rise, up 4.85%, while conglomerate Metro Holding was the worst performer, with its shares down 13.25%.

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,504.75 by market close, up from 1,538.00 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $60.20 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Friday.
