UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul flat at close

BIST 100 index gains slightly by 0.03 percent versus Thursday's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index climbed slightly by 0.03 percent to close at 101,801.42 points on Friday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index climbed 27.13 points from Thursday's close of 101,774.29 points, while it started Friday at 102,122.88 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 101,199.61 and 102,319.92 points during Friday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 662.3 billion Turkish liras ($125.6 billion) by market close and the daily trading volume was 7.3 billion Turkish liras ($1.4 billion).

On the last transaction day of the week, 49 stocks on the index were on the rise, while 40 were on the decline, and 11 were flat compared to the previous close.

The top listed companies were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.2 billion), private lender Garanti ($7.3 billion), and leading chemical producer Tupras ($6.45 billion) by market value.

The highest trading volumes were posted by Garanti, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and iron/steel producer Kardemir.

Shares of the health services company Medical Park were the top gainers -- up 4.99 percent -- and paint producer Polisan dropped most by 17.62 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate was 5.2820 at close, up from Thursday's close of 5.2700.

The euro/Turkish lira exchange rate rose to 6.0080 at the week's close, versus 5.9880 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 6.9360 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY rate was 6.8940 at close on Thursday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold was around $1,284.35 by market close, up from $1,280.25 the previous day.

The price of Brent crude oil rose to $61.10 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Friday, versus $60.88 at the previous close.
