BIST 100 index gains nearly 1,300 points versus last week's close

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index climbed 1.25 percent to close at 104,594.66 points on Monday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the week at 103,785.14 points, gaining 1,290.61 points from last week's close of 103,304.05 points.

The benchmark index hovered between 103,785.14 and 104,882.80 points during Monday's trading.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 687.1 billion Turkish liras ($125.9 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 7.55 billion Turkish liras ($1.4 billion).

On the first transaction day of the week, 67 stocks on the index were on the rise, 29 were on the decline, and four were flat compared to the previous close.

The top listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding ($8.46 billion), private lender Garanti ($7.3 billion), and leading chemical producer Tupras ($6.83 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti, and iron/steel producer Kardemir.

Shares of mining company Koza Anadolu were the top gainers -- up 9.03 percent -- and conglomerate Metro dropped the most, 18.37 percent.

The U.S. dollar/Turkish lira exchange rate stood at 5.4620 at close, versus Friday's close of 5.4690.

The euro/lira rate also stood at 6.2010 at Monday's close, versus 6.2070 at the previous close.

One British pound traded for 7.2470 Turkish liras, while the GBP/TRY rate was 7.2690 at close on Friday.

In Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, the price of one ounce of gold reached $1,306.60 by market close, up from 1,304.50 at the previous close.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $67.50 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) Monday.
