UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up at close

BIST 100 index gains over 770 points from previous close, USD/TRY exchange rate stands around 5.68

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended the day up 0.76% to close at 102,618.41 points on Wednesday.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 101,695.92 points. As of today's close, it gained 771.47 points from Tuesday's close of 101,846.94 points.

An ounce of gold sold for $1,517.48 at the daily close in Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets, versus $1,525.18 at the previous close.

During Wednesday's trading, the index's lowest level was 101,555.56 points and the highest was 102,618.41 points -- 66 stocks on the index rose, 24 were down, and 10 were flat compared to Tuesday.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was 943 billion Turkish liras ($166 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 7.2 billion Turkish liras ($1.27 billion).

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti, and Adese Alisveris Merkezleri operating in the wholesale and retail trade sector.

MLP Saglık Hizmetleri, which operates in healthcare sector, was the best performer on Wednesday, with its shares up 7.40%, while stocks of Adese Alisveris Merkezleri dropped most, down 7.95%.

The price of Brent oil was $62.12 per barrel as of 6 p.m. local time (1500GMT) on Wednesday, with a day range of $61.23 to $62.81.

At the beginning of 2019, a barrel of Brent oil sold for around $53.
