UPDATE - Turkey's Borsa Istanbul up over 1.8% at close

BIST 100 earns over 1,800 points from previous close; Turkish lira gains value against foreign currencies

ISTANBUL (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index closed the day at 101,846.94 points on Tuesday, up 1.83% from the previous close.

Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index started the day at 101.375,47 points. As of daily close, it earned 1,826.29 points from Monday's close of 100,020.65 points.

During Tuesday's trading, the index's lowest level was 101,375.47 points and the highest was 102,235.94 points.

The total market value of the BIST 100 was around 674.9 billion Turkish liras ($118 billion) by market close, and the daily trading volume was 7.8 billion Turkish liras ($1.37 billion).

On the second transaction day of the week, 84 stocks on the index rose, 10 were down, and six were flat compared to Monday.

The top-listed companies by market value were Turkish conglomerate Koc Holding and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, Garanti, and defense giant Aselsan.

Adese Alisveris Merkezleri, which operates in the wholesale and retail trade sector, was the best performer on Tuesday, with its shares up 14.90%, while stocks of construction and energy company Isiklar dropped most, down 4.65%

The price of one ounce of gold was around $1,521.30 by market close, up from $1,518.75 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $63.70 per barrel as of 6 p.m. (1500GMT) on Tuesday.
