UPDATE - Turkish stock market closes higher on Wednesday

BIST 100 jumps over 33 points from previous day

ANKARA (AA) – Turkiye's benchmark stock index Borsa Istanbul closed at 2,451.43 points on Wednesday with a 1.37% daily gain.

Starting the day at 2,425.36 points, the index jumped 33.13 points from Tuesday's close of 2,418.30.

The index's lowest value during the day was 2,398.90 points, while its highest value was 2,453.88.

Its total market value was almost 2 trillion Turkish liras ($135 billion) by market close, with a daily trading volume of over 40.6 billion Turkish liras ($2.7 billion).

During the third transaction day of the week, 60 stocks on the index rose, 38 fell and two remained unchanged compared to Tuesday's close.

The highest trading volumes were posted by national flag carrier Turkish Airlines, and steel producers Kardemir and Eregli.

Ceramic and tile producer Qua Granite Hayal Yapi was the best performer of the day with its shares up 5.13%, while development and investment bank Turkiye Sinai Kalkinma Bankasi saw the biggest drop of 3.14%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,905 by market close, down from $1,909.60 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

Price of Brent crude oil was down 0.6% to $104 per barrel as of 6.39 p.m. local time (1539GMT).
