UPDATE - Turkish stocks hit 8-month high at close

BIST 100 index rises 12.64 points from previous close

ANKARA (AA) - Turkey's benchmark stock index ended Monday up 1.06% to hit 8-month high of 1,205.37 points.

After starting the week at 1,198.08 points, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index rose 12.64 points from 1,192.73 points at Friday's close.

On Monday, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,195.46 and 1,209.47 points – 45 stocks on the index rose and eight fell compared to the previous close.

Closing the day with a market value of some 884 billion Turkish liras ($111 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 22.2 billion Turkish liras ($2.81 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by glass manufacturer Sise and private lenders Garanti and Akbank.

Paper-carton producer Kartonsan was the best performer, with its shares up 10%, while stocks of conglomerate Net Holding dropped the most, losing 5.95%.

The price of one ounce of gold was $1,915.00 by market close, up from $1,908.05 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul's Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $42.89 per barrel as of 6.15 p.m. local time (1515GMT) on Monday.
