ISTANBUL (AA) - Türkiye’s foreign minister held separate phone calls Wednesday with his United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iranian counterparts to discuss bilateral relations.
During the calls, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan from the UAE and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian from Iran conveyed their congratulations to Mevlut Cavusoglu for the reelection of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his alliance's success in the parliamentary elections.
Türkiye went to the polls Sunday for a presidential runoff election after no candidate secured more than 50% of the vote needed for an outright victory in the first round on May 14.
Erdogan won with more than 52% of the vote, while opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu received over 47%, according to unofficial results.
