ANKARA / ISTANBUL (AA) - A fatal road accident in Uganda involving multiple vehicles, including buses, killed 46 people, police said on Wednesday, citing details obtained from hospitals.
“At the time of the crash, several victims were found unconscious, and some may have been mistakenly included in the initial fatality count,” Ugandan police clarified on the US social media company X, after earlier putting the death toll at 63.
It said they are working closely with health and emergency teams to ensure timely and accurate updates as the situation unfolds.
The crash occurred at 12.15 am local time (GMT0915) on Wednesday at Kitaleba Village, near Asili Farm, along the Kampala-Gulu Highway, the police earlier said.
It involved four vehicles, including two buses, a lorry, and an SUV, the statement read.
Police expressed condolences to the victims’ families and called on motorists to “exercise maximum caution on the roads.”
