DIYARBAKIR, Turkey (AA) - A village guard was martyred and six others wounded in an attack by PKK terrorists in southeastern Diyarbakir province on Tuesday, according to a local security source.
The PKK terrorists opened fire on the village guards in Kulp district, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media.
The attack came when six village guards and a civilian were shifting woods in a truck. One village guards was martyred and five others, including a civilian, were injured.
The injured guards -- two of them in critical condition -- were rushed to a nearby hospital, the source added.
Anti-terror operations were underway in the region to nab the terrorists.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- waged a terror campaign against Turkey for more than 30 years and has been responsible for the death of nearly 40,000 people.
More than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children, have been killed since July 2015 alone when the group resumed its armed campaign against the country.
