WASHINGTON (AA) - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani reiterated their commitment to enhancing security and stability in the Middle East during a meeting in Washington, the State Department said Wednesday.
The two discussed the importance of the US-Bahrain strategic partnership, including security cooperation, and the "shared commitment to safeguarding maritime security and freedom of navigation against Houthi threats, and a shared commitment to peace,” spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a statement.
They also discussed economic ties, emphasizing collaboration in emerging technologies, and highlighted the US-Bahrain Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement and the Abraham Accords as "platforms for joint deterrence, diplomacy, security, and regional integration."
The meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to support greater security and stability in the Middle East, the statement added.
