ISTANBUL (AA) - The US Army has ordered the National Guard to remain deployed in Washington, DC until Nov. 30, ABC News reported Thursday.
Around 950 Guard members are affected by the extension, two US officials told ABC, though President Donald Trump could still shorten or prolong their mission.
Army Secretary Dan Driscoll approved the move Wednesday, the report said.
Brig. Gen. Leland D. Blanchard II, the commander of the DC Guard, said in a video message that “our mission is not complete” and pledged to continue ensuring safety in the nation’s capital.
Trump first called in the Guard last month, citing what he described as uncontrolled crime in Washington.
Since then, Guard members have been visible in the capital, including around the National Mall.
