WASHINGTON (AA) - The US House failed to override two vetoes Thursday by President Donald Trump on legislation for a water pipeline in Colorado and a flood control project in Florida.

The Colorado water project bill received 248 votes, with 35 Republicans joining 213 Democrats.

The Republican-controlled lower chamber additionally voted 236-188 to sustain Trump’s veto of a bill providing support to the Miccosukee Tribe in Florida, which has clashed with the White House about plans for the “Alligator Alcatraz” immigration detention facility.

Both votes required a two-thirds majority to pass and advance to the Senate.

The votes marked the first attempted veto overrides by the lower chamber after Trump issued his first vetoes of his second term.
