'There is no ceasefire in Gaza. US-supplied bombs are still being used to murder Palestinians,' says congresswoman Delia Ramirez

WASHINGTON (AA) - Rep. Delia Ramirez said on Friday that there is no ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and accused the US of enabling continued violence through its military support for Israel.

"There is no ceasefire in Gaza. US-supplied bombs are still being used to murder Palestinians," Ramirez said on US social media company X, sharing a report that said Israeli strikes killed at least 30 Palestinians, including several children last week in the besieged enclave despite a ceasefire.

Ramirez urged lawmakers to assert congressional authority over US foreign military assistance and support her proposed legislation, the Block The Bombs Act.

"Congress must assert its authority and put an end to the genocide. We must pass my Block The Bombs Act, which would stop the use of MK-series bombs, and end our complicity in these horrors.

"Not one more bomb, not one more dollar, not one more excuse," she added.

Last week, the US State Department approved potential foreign military sales to Israel totaling about $6.52 billion.

The US has long been criticized for providing support to Israel in its war in Gaza, where nearly 72,000 people, mostly women and children, have been killed since Oct. 7, 2023.

Several American lawmakers, including Sen. Bernie Sanders, frequently make calls for the US government to stop supplying weapons to Israel and of being complicit in Israel's war in Gaza.
