MOSCOW (AA) - The US-mediated Russia-Ukraine talks in Abu Dhabi "were constructive and focused on ways to create conditions for achieving a lasting peace," according to a communique on the meeting's results.

The document was published by the Secretary of Ukraine's Defense and Security Council, Rustem Umerov, on Telegram.

"On Feb. 4-5, delegations from the US, Ukraine, and the Russian Federation held a second round of trilateral negotiations in Abu Dhabi to advance efforts aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. The discussions were constructive and focused on ways to create conditions for achieving a lasting peace," it said.

The communique noted that the delegations reached an agreement to exchange 157 prisoners of war from each side, which was implemented immediately.

"This is the first exchange in the last five months," it said.

The delegations held broad discussions on the remaining unresolved issues, particularly methods for implementing a ceasefire and monitoring the cessation of hostilities, said the statement.

"The delegations agreed to report to their respective capitals and continue trilateral negotiations in the coming weeks. They expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for hosting the negotiations," it said.

Umerov added that Ukraine is grateful to President Donald Trump for his leadership in advancing efforts to end the conflict.
